Grammy Nominations Article

So originally this post was going to focus on how grammy nominations are made but after reading one MTV article this post is going in another direction.
So I found out who got nominated via my RSS feed for MTV news. The article "Lil Wayne, Coldplay Lead Grammy Nominations"had highlights and here is a snippet.

Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West each earned six nods, while Alison Krauss, John Mayer, Robert Plant, Radiohead and Jazmine Sullivan received five each. Adele is up for four including Best New Artist as are Lupe Fiasco and T.I.

After reading that last sentence I was thinking "Whoa this is crazy! How can Lupe Fiasco and T.I. be nominated for best new artist!"

I was going to launch a verbal tirade on how the grammy's are out of touch and truly are insane.I then went online to post a list of all the artist's nominated for best new artist and realized Lupe and T.I. were NOT nominated. Check out nominations below
  • Adele
  • Duffy
  • Jonas Brothers
  • Lady Antebellum
  • Jazmine Sullivan
I obviously read the sentence incorrectly. Perhaps I just glanced it at quickly either way let's go over it again.
"Adele is up for four — including Best New Artist—as are Lupe Fiasco and T.I."

So the sentence means that Adele, Lupe, and T.I. all received four nominations.  Though re-reading that sentence like 10 times I still can see where someone can be confused. The problem is that I am the type of person to regurgitate this incorrect info to everyone.  For example

Scene: A holiday party with many strangers. Someone mentions music or award shows
Dan: Man the grammy's have really lost touch. They nominated Lupe and T.I. for best new artist. Both have established careers and I think Lupe already won a grammy. Makes no sense.
Person listening: Really that is weird.
Dan: Yeah I read the nominations online at MTV news- Have an RSS feed.
Person listening: Word

Any way I know this isn't a web phenomon and that it has happened in print forever but I just tend to see these issues allot on web articles.  The other thing to point out this wasn't a quick blog post on MTV. It was an article written by Chris Harris an MTV newsroom guy.
Alright far too long of a post. Take it easy.

For a list of all nominations check out the Grammy site: Grammy Nominations
