Food locations from "down south" roadtrip

I have compiled a list of favorite meals from recent trip down south. I think it speaks volume's the two most authentic non-fancy places (Ike's and Jestine's Kitchen) do not have websites.

Ike's Korner Grill
Spartanburg, South Carolina

I had a cheeseburger plate with fresh cut fries and a side of cole slaw, all washed down with a cup of sweet tea (sweetened ice tea for the non tea drinkers). Great start to the road trip with a semi-greasy lunch.

From Peerless

Johnson City,Tennessee
Katie and I shared the fillet mignon for two with asparagus and potatoes on the side.

Nashville, TN
Great BBQ I was quite impressed. I had the 3 combo plate including Tennessee Pork Shoulder, Texas Beef Brisket, and Smoked Chicken! Don't forget the great sides Mac & Cheese and Baked Beans.

Savannah, GA
Served the best refined meal of the trip. Garibaldi's is known for various seafood dishes. Katie and I started our dinner in Savannah with a mixed green salad combining granny smith apples, reduced vinaigrette, pecans, blue cheese crumbles, and topped with fabulous scallops.
For an entree I had the red snapper with risotto. Katie had her favorite linguini with clams.

From Jestine's Kitchen

Jestine's Kitchen
Charleston, SC

Katie and I spent only a couple of hours of Charleston and I'm glad we waited in line to eat Jestine's Kitchen. Our meal began with an appetizer of fried green tomato's which I finished in about two minutes.
Katie had an interesting lunch combination consisting of a plate of fried chicken with a side of mac & cheese and watermelon. The waitress was a bit confused by the contrasting sides but Katie wanted her watermelon. I ordered the Cajun Creole.
I have to mention the lovely waitstaff again. As I was eating some of Katie's chicken in a nice southern accent a waitress told me "stop messing with that silverware and eat that chicken with your hands"

The highlight for me was dessert. I ordered a pecan pie that was the best I ever had. The pecans were minced and the crust delicious. Katie ordered a coconut cream pie. After that meal we left completely full and satisfied.

KFC Grilled chicken is delicious. Oprah is delicious as well

I just had the pleasure of enjoying a KFC grilled chicken meal on the house.  I first saw the post after lunch on dealnews. Now I hear citizens of these great United States are enjoying free chicken thanks to our leader Oprah Winfrey.

I went to the KFC in Auburn to get my grub. I was then questioned whether I watch Oprah. Politely responding that I don't watch Oprah but use the internet towards my advantage.

The grilled chicken was delicious and moist (so juicy that it's now on my sweater). The side of potato wedges was a  small portion but with two pieces of chicken I was more than satisfied. Now how do I get Oprah to pay for my dry-cleaning bill for the sweater?

Heart Attack Waiting to Happen

I just ate one of the most innovative lunches ever. I describe it as the heart attack waiting to happen. Muncheez present's: The Donut Burger.
Muncheez is really close to my house and until recently only thought of this establishment as regular pizza joint in Worcester. Things all changed when I saw a recent episode of the Phantom Gourmet. This episode featured Muncheez and the Donut Burger.

A sugar coated plain donut serves as the bread for the burger. Packed inside is a burger, bacon, cheese, and onion rings. Yeah you read that correctly!
The donut was warm and sweet simply spectacular. Unlike most buns the donut didn't fall apart.
The actual burger tasted good but to tell you the truth I think the bacon spoiled it for me. I know that is sacrilege as bacon always makes food taste better. I don't know if it was the contrasting salt and sugar but just thought it was better without. Perhaps if was maple flavored bacon it could have enhanced the burger. Any way one of the most interesting lunches I have ever had!

Chilling at Panera

I enjoy Panera. Good free internet, hot coffee, good sandwiches, and awesome cinnamon rolls. I am finishing off my brunch and then I am off to Orlando for the rest of the week. I have a feeling new year's eve will be low key. Adios

Delicious dinner meal

Just finished a great dinner. I Went to a new Mexican restaurant in Holden named "Playa del Carmen" (I guess website is not up yet but here is the link to Acapulco's).It is the same people who run Acapolco's and Cancun's restaurants. Managed by Jorge Guzman who is no relation to Guzman side of my family.

The food was so tasty and I was starving. I had one of those moments where I wanted to eat the food so quickly I didn't even want to use a knife to cut up my carne asada. Sad but true. Any way I am quite satisfied.
